Chapter 2
After a few more minutes of standing there, thinking of the fame he would have by being the one that found "the hidden hole", he decided that it was time now to claim that fame.
Mr. Frog was always someone that was well-known, yet somewhat of an average person - he wasn’t extremely smart, he never did anything that everyone else saw as real important, and he was somewhat shy around big groups of people. Mr. Frog worked all his life, had a small little house, and went about his business in a private manor. Today, however, all of this would change.
He ran to town and didn’t stop until he was at the front door of the local tavern. He gathered himself together, put his hat on the right way, straighten his clothes out, and walked inside.
"Ummm, excuse me everyone," he said in his quiet voice, "I have something to tell you." No one paid any attention, in fact, no one seemed to even know he was there. He took off his hat and looked around at everyone talking and having a good time. "Everyone, please listen, I have important news." Again no one listened. Mr. Frog looked around again, and saw an empty table, he made his way to it, set his hat on the chair, and climbed up onto the tabletop. Everyone stopped and stared at him. For Mr. Frog, this was extremely unusual behavior.
Mr. Frog could feel them all looking at him, so now was his chance. "I have something to say that I think you all will be interested in." He felt his face get hot and his hands get cold. He was not good at speaking in public, but it seemed to be too late to go back now. He continued, "I ... I found the hidden hole."
Each and every person in the tavern had their own reaction. The owner of the tavern, Mr. Mole, ran to the table that Mr. Frog was standing on and just looked at him and then turned to see the reaction of everyone else. Mrs. Owl, the town librarian, fainted; Ms. Skunk started screaming; Mr. Squirrel looked at Mr. Frog as though he was crazy - everyone seemed to have been thrown into a state of shock.
While everyone was jumping around, telling each other how they just knew the story was real and how they themselves would have found the hole, but for reasons that made no sense, they hadn’t yet. Many were telling the person next to them that they too had found the hidden hole, but decided not to tell anyone, but since now that its known that someone knows where it is, they figured they too would come out. Stories started to arise everywhere, each so different from the next that you would have never know that it had all originated from the same story. It was as though a wave of selfishness seemed had been sent through the normally quiet and caring town. Mr. Frog just stood there on the table, looking around. This was not the fame he had thought he would get.
Mr. Mole finally came out of his shock and managed to mutter a few words, as he spun around to face Mr. Frog. "Where...how.... Mr. Frog?" Mr. Frog was gone.
Mrs. Owl had finally awoke, just in time to notice that Mr. Frog had disappeared. "I’ll bet the hole gave him magic dust so he can make himself disappear."
"No no," said Ms. Skunk with her hands on her hips, "he jumped up and over us all and out the door with his magic dust."
Mr. Squirrel interrupted, "Wrong. The hole gave him a power so he could transform himself to look like someone else, yes, that is what happened."
Again the towns people all had their own idea of what happen to Mr. Frog. The truth was, Mr. Frog was hiding under the table.
